The Phantom of the Opera:
Media and Literature Unit
The Phantom of the Opera is a novel written in 1909 by Gaston Leroux. Though the novel originally was a poor seller and unpopular, today it has reached infamy in various stage, film, and companion novel formats. Now that we have read the novel in class, and viewed the 2004 feature film, use this website (as well as other resources) to explore the novel's most popular media counterparts. Make sure you pay attention to creative liberties each of the adaptations took with the plot, characters, etc.
Once you have read everything, and thought about the differences between the four versions, take the quiz located at the top of the page.
The critical analysis essay you will write for the final assessment of this unit asks you to examine one character from the story. Use these tools to help you develop a unique portrait of your selected individual.
